Amaranth Quartet returns to this year’s Kronos Festival to highlight Kronos’ commitment to younger generations of string quartets with a performance of select works from Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. The program includes music by Trio Da Kali’s Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Rhiannon Giddens, Garth Knox, Nicole Lizée and Aleksandra Vrebalov. Launched in 2015, Kronos’ Fifty for the Future is an education and legacy project that is commissioning – and distributing for free – the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet. The local quartet embodies the ethos of Kronos’ Fifty for the Future through their commitment to commissioning new music for string quartet and working with grade school students across the US.
